LOCKS OF LOVEHair Pieces Made For Chidlren With Hair Loss Due To Medical Reasons
Children and adults are donating their hair to Locks of Love. They make hair pieces for children who have suffered with hair loss due to medical conditions.
The Locks of Love Foundation is a non-profit organization. They make hair pieces for children 18 years and younger who have lost their hair due to long-term medical conditions such as cancer. These children are of a low income family and they usually have a low self-esteem because of their hair loss. The hair pieces are made from hair that is donated from other people. About 80% of the people who donate their hair are other children. Even though they welcome hair of all ages, gender and race, there are some conditions and standards that they go by. Guidelines For Hair DonationsHair should be in a ponytail or a braid before it is donated. It is okay if the hair is colored or permed; however, the hair cannot be bleached. They can’t use bleached hair because there is a chemical reaction during the manufacturing process. If you are shaving your head, you have to divide your hair in ponytails before doing so. Another important thing is that the hair must be 10 inches or longer. Even if the hair is layered, the longest part of the hair must be 10 inches. There is no maximum length -- hair can be as long as you want. If the hair is curly, you may pull the hair straight to measure the length. Synthetic hair, wigs or hair extensions are not acceptable. Dreadlocks cannot be used either. How To DonateIt doesn’t matter who cuts your hair as long as certain steps are taken to send it in. For one, the hair has to be in a ponytail or a braid and has to be clean and completely dry. It must be put in a plastic bag and placed in a padded envelope. Then it should be mailed to: Locks of Love, 234 Southern Blvd., West Palm Beach, FL 33405. If you would like to receive a personalized "thank you" card for your donation, you can fill out the online form on the Locks of Love website at www.locksoflove.org or you can put a sheet of paper in the envelope with your name and address on it. To get an immediate response, there is a “Certificate of Appreciation” online that you can fill out and print. If you do not have long hair, but you are interested in this organization, you can still help out. One thing that is going on in many places around the country is Locks of Love events. You can hold your own event in your community. There are churches, schools and even individuals who hold these events. Here are a few ideas for fundraisers:
There are several PDF forms online to print out for donations or fundraiser events. You can even use their press release to send to the media before your event. If you have any problems or questions about anything, you can mail it to the address above, fax it to (561) 833-7962, email at info@locksoflove.org or call them at (561) 833-7332. It is a great cause and helps thousands of children deal with their illness in a more positive way.
